Modern (1950s+)
By the 1950s, new commercial blocks were being constructed in the Modern style, and many new Modern faéades were being placed over older, existing structures. Modernism, being more of an ideal than a style, is the rejection of architectural ornament and historical references. Modern, machine-produced materials and simple, utilitarian designs characterize this time period.
The large unadorned surfaces and horizontal ribbon of windows, as well as utilitarian storefront, characterize this façade.
