Parcel
To accommodate newspapers and packages, larger boxes were placed next to lamppost mailboxes in the late 19th century. This design has changed little from the boxes we know today. With the advent of Parcel Post in 1913, these boxes became more prevalent to accommodate the sharp increase in package deliveries.
