Colonial Revival
From the turn-of-the-century through the 1940s, the Colonial Revival style was quite popular for any building type, including town halls, courthouses, libraries, post offices, and a number of other public institutions. Although based upon early colonial styles, the Colonial Revival style did not closely adhere to the tenets of colonial architecture. Architects employed the traditional Classical motifs but often over-exaggerated the detail and abandoned the strict order and proportion. The oversized features, such as the large windows, prominent, elongated pilasters, and large fanlight atop the entrance, all add monumentality to the important municipal building seen below.
