High Victorian Gothic

By the end of the 19th century, around the 1890s, Gothic architecture again reared its head. The High Victorian Gothic era is characterized by its large, monumental architecture, quite suitable for mansions and castles. The style was also appropriate for grand collegiate architecture, like Williams Hall on the University of Vermont campus. Steeply pitched gables, finials, small turrets, tall arched or pointed windows, and gargoyles all adorn the expansive façade seen below.
