By the 1950s, many of the traditional buildings motifs were discarded in favor of a more functional modern style. Although a lot of residential construction at this time still clung to historic themes, most public buildings were erected in the simple, utilitarian flat-roofed boxes of glass, steel, and reinforced concrete.
