Colonial (12/12, 12/8, or 9/9 Sash)

Due to the high cost of glass, early Colonial houses generally featured windows with multiple panes of small glass in each sash. The number combinations varied, but the 12/12, 12/8, and 9/9 styles were popular. In Vermont, these windows were popular on the Federal Style until around the 1820s or 1830s. They were replaced with the 6/6 sash window at that time.
