Fanlights

These semi-circular windows located atop the main entrance were extremely popular during the Federal era, from the late 18th century through the 1830s. They are also still seen on some Greek Revival houses from the 1840s and 1850s. The fanlight reappeared on Colonial Revival structures of the early 20th century. Federal and Greek Revival era fanlights, seen below, usually feature more detail than Colonial Revival era fanlights.
