Gable-Front with Raking Eaves
Around the 1870s, the cornice returns were replaced with raking eaves - eaves that extend straight down past the wall of the structure. This period marked a large boom of worker housing in Vermont, and many of these structures were simple, vernacular houses. The raking eaves are predominant from the 1870s through the end of the 19th century for vernacular and folk Victorian houses (modest, simplified Gothic Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne styles).
