Picture windows first gained widespread popularity during the 1890s and were popular on Queen Anne style houses. The large Queen Anne era plate-glass windows often featured a stained glass transom. During the Colonial Revival period of the early 20th century, picture windows fell out of favor. The picture window was revived in a undecorated, simple fashion during the 1950s and has remained popular through the present day.
