Steel Towers

Eventually, most of the lighthouses on Lake Champlain were deactivated. Steel skeleton towers with automatic beacons were erected, no longer requiring the service of lighthouse keepers.

One of the three steel towers that replaced the original Burlington Breakwater Lights are pictured below. The north and middle towers were erected in 1925 and the south tower in 1950. The steel towers were replaced by replicas of the original lighthouses in 2003.
