Sailboats

Recreational boating gained popularity as early as the 1860s, but grew steadily through the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries. The Lake Champlain Ice Boating Club formed in 1885, and the Burlington Yacht Club opened in 1886. By the 1910s, recreational boating surged in popularity, and sailing was part of this trend. The early 20^th century postcards seen below capture what was becoming a popular sport at that time.
