Gulf
Gulf Oil was formed in 1901 upon the discovery of oil in Spindletop, Texas. Their first logo, seen below, was developed around 1915 and featured a simple orange circle with black lettering that appeared three-dimensional.

By the early 1930s, Gulf was a major U.S. corporation, expanding into Vermont in 1930. The orange circle received a thin black border, and the lettering was simplified.

The 1950s and 1960s saw a huge growth rate for the company, and, in 1964, the company redesigned their logo. The orange, blue, and white disc remained the company logo until their demise.

In 1984, Gulf merged with Chevron, who later sold off stations to British Petroleum and Cumberland Farms.
