Diesel (1960s)
During the 1960s, a boxier engine type was developed for freight, closely resembling those used today. The two images below illustrate the typical 1960s engines used on Vermont's railroads. The form is tall and narrow, more square, and tapers into a point at the front end. A railing runs around the circumference of the car, and a bell hangs in the front.
