Meet the Folks Who've Made This Project Happen
Jamie Russell
(2008- present). Jamie is our full-time staff member who is making
it all happen these days. She's recruited six interns and worked with
them in the summer of 2008 to add thousands of new images to the archive.
She hired another group of interns in 2009 and will be working with them
in the summer to add thousands of additional images to the archive.
Caroline Rush
(2009). Caroline was an intern during the summer of 2009. She scanned and
described images alongside fellow interns and helped to being the archive
to over 30,000 images. Caroline is a student in the Rubenstein
School of Environment and Natural Resources at UVM.
Samantha Merrill
(2009). Sam is a journalism major at St. Michael's college. During the '09
summer Sam worked as an intern for the Landscape Change Program scanning
and describing images. Along with the other interns she helped to being
the archive to over 30,000 images.
Glen Frieden
(2009). Glen is a history and russian literature double major at Middlebury College.
He worked as a LCP intern during the 2009 summer scanning and describing images. Alongside his
fellow interns, Glen helped to being the archive to over 30,000 images.
Renee Gliddon
(2009). Renee worked for LCP as in intern in the summer of 2009. Renee worked
with 6 other interns to scan and describe images. During this summer, she
helped to bring the total number of images in the archive to over 30,000!
Renee is a middle level education major at UVM.
Andrew Turgeon
(2009). Andrew was a summer '09 intern for the Landscape Change Program. He
scanned and described images alongside fellow interns and helped to being
the archive to over 30,000 images. Andrew graduated with a degree in geography
from UVM just before beginning to work for LCP.
Katherine Zephir
(2009). Coco is an environmental studies and english double major at UVM.
Coco worked during the summer of 2009 scanning and describing images for the
Landscape Change Program. During the summer, she and the 6 other interns worked
to bring the number of images in the archive to over 30,000.
Morgan Stewart
(2009). Morgan worked as a Landscape Change Program intern in the summer 2009.
She worked under a grant from the Transportation Research Center at UVM to scan and
describe images documenting construction of the intestates in Vermont. Together with
the 6 other interns, Morgan helped to take the number of images in the archive to over
30,000. Morgan is a sociology major at UVM.
Malin Deon
(2008). Malin worked during the summer of 2008 as an intern
scanning and describing images. She worked with fellow interns
to take the number of images in the archive from about 14,000
to nearly 24,000. Malin was a graduate student in the Historic Preservation
department at UVM and has since graduated.
Sara Krumminga
(2008). Sara is a History major, Geography minor at UVM who plans to graduate in 2009. She
started in the summer of 2008 as an intern scanning
and describing images. She continued working through the fall and
was part of a team who worked to increase the number of images in the
archive from about 14,000 to nearly 24,000.
Kristina Brown
(2008). Kristina is a Middlebury College student studying Literature
and Geography. She plans to graduate in 2010. Kristina worked during the
summer of 2008 as an intern scanning and describing images. During the
extremely productive summer that Kristina and her fellow interns worked,
the number of images in the archive jumped from about 14,000 to nearly 24,000.
Kate Sease
(2008-2009). Kate is a student at UVM studying Political Science and History.
She plans to graduate in 2010. Kate worked during the summer of 2008 through
February 2009 as an intern scanning and describing images.
She worked with fellow interns to take the number of
images in the archive from about 14,000 to nearly 24,000.
John William Meyer
(2008). John William is a Middlebury College student with a double major in
History and Economics. He plans to graduate in 2010.
John William worked during the summer of 2008 as an
intern scanning and describing images. During the summer of his employment
John William and his fellow interns worked to take the number of images in
the archive from about 14,000 to nearly 24,000.
Josh Ellsworth
(2008). Josh started in the summer of 2008 as an intern scanning
and describing images. He continued through the fall working with
fellow interns to take the number of images in the archive from
about 14,000 to nearly 24,000. Josh is a UVM student with a double major
in Political Science and Environmental Studies. He plans to graduate in 2010
Wesley Wright (2005-
present). Wes is the UVM programming guru who makes the magic happen
and images show up on your screen.
Shelley Snyder
(2004 - present). Shelley joined the crew for July of 2004 as a
"teacher in residence." She's a high school teacher at Mt.
Abraham Union High School and took time from her vacation to work with
us, gaining familiarity with the project and adding valuable perspective
and hard work. Shelly remains with the project helping to coordinate
curriculum development.
Lizzie Andre
(2006-present). Lizzie was a UVM graduate student in Historical
Preservation who joined the project after her graduation. She's
responsible for developing relative dating rubrics (click here to see her work) and dating more than
6000 undated images in the archive! She's also kept busy doing loads of
QA/QC cleaning up the database, as well as describing and key wording
images.
Amanda Gestinger
(2007-present). Amanda is scan queen, far outdistancing Matt in just
about every match up. Maybe it's windows? Amanda scanned many of the
Long Trail images. Amanda was a UVM Geology graduate student while she
worked on the project.
Matt Jungers
(2007-present). Matt kept busy describing images from the Green
Mountain club, scanning Long Trail images, as well as promising to
upload cool pictures of ice climbing in Vermont. Matt was UVM Geology
graduate student while she worked on the project.
Ashley Hogan (2007-present). Ashley scanned, photographed, and
described several hundred image from a 2007 show at the UVM Fleming
Museum, Burlington and Winooski 1920-2020: The Evolution of our Built
Environment. She was a UVM undergraduate student at the time and
continued working into the summer.
Danielle Eastman
(2007-present). Danielle described images of campus and of surrounding
towns during the summer of 2007. She was a UVM undergraduate student at
the time who had just graduated.
Abigail Hood (2006-2007).
Abby Hood worked reshooting high elevation images from the Green
Mountains of Vermont. She worked for the program after graduating with
an MS degree from UVM and is now a teacher.
John Paul Lavoie (2005-2006). JP worked for the program
developing curriculum and cleaning up more than 10,000 images. As
photoshop god, he rotated, cropped, removed moire, and adjusted contrast
and brightness. He is now a teacher.
Ben Fenster (2005-2007). Ben
is responsible for much of the look and feel of the Landscape Change web
site. Ben worked as part of the Landscape team while he was an MS
student in computer science at UVM. He continued coding after
graduation. Ben is Mr. Search.
Corey Coutu (2005-2007).
Corey scanned and described images for several years working first for
the Landscape Program when he was an undergraduate at UVM and continuing
as a graduate student in Geology and Education.
Emily Rehmeyer (2006-2007).
Emily, a geography and computer science undergraduate at UVM, developed
the first database analysis tools that were critical in helping us and
others see the Landscape archive in whole new ways.
Rachel Lomonaco (2005).
Rachel scanned images for a summer with the program while she was a UVM
undergraduate in Geology. She went on to describe those images over the
next few months.
Kara Lenorovitz
(2004). Kara helped scan and upload photos in 2004. She figured out how
to date postcards by their postage and helped solve countless mysteries
of where various photos are located.
Elizabeth Stanley Mann
(2004-2005). (Left) Elizabeth worked during the spring of 2004 to
reshoot the collection of 1927 aerial flood photos and then stayed on as
part of our first team of interns. Michala Peabody (2004-2006)
Michala joined the team for the summer of 2004. Her scanning prowess
made us suspect a "deal with the devil". Michala kept
on scanning and describing for another 2 years! Jehanna Howe
(2004-2005). Jehanna also joined the team for the summer 2004-2005. Her
hard work added much to the program. She risked permanent numbness in
one pinky finger (our first scanning injury?) for the cause.
Byron Murray (2004).
Byron worked with us for June of 2004, helping at Special Collections
and the Vermont State Archives.
Dave Elvin (2003-2004).
Dave did the initial database programming that gives the site its
functionality, both for searches and uploads. Pages with images were
made "on the fly" by our database so that staff don't need to
make separate html pages for each set of images as they did in the first
version of this site.
Jens Hilke (2003-2004). Jens
worked as the second Project Coordinator in 2003 /2004. He worked with
another cohort of schools during the academic year and helped redesign
the web page to its current form. The collection went to 3180 images
during the school year and then expanded greatly as he worked with our
first group of interns.
Megan McGee (2003-2005).
Megan helped with the changeover from the first version of the website
to the second. She spent considerable time helping us upload and then
reupload images, working out the bugs of the new database.
Lyman Persico (2000-2001).
Lyman assisted with reshooting many photos in the first years of the
project.
Naomi Lawrence (2000). Naomi
was a high school student who worked with Laura and Lyman scanning and
reshooting photographs.
Laura Mallard (2000-2001).
Laura worked as the first Project Coordinator for the LCP in 2000 /
2001. She designed the first version of this web site and worked with a
group of pilot schools. She spent hours making pages for each set of
images. Her hard work and energy brought the site to about 600 images.
